ICES 2011 (Hangzhou)

ICES 2011 workshop took place June 27-29 at Hangzhou, China.

The workshop was hosted by China Jiliang University. Similar to previous year workshop will be part of the WSC Academic Day 2011.

Theme of the Workshop : Research and Academic Teaching about Standardization.

Draft programme Academic teaching is founded in research and the workshop intends to provide an overview of existing and ongoing academic research in the field of standardization. The workshop aims then at exploring how this research is used for preparing the contents of academic education in standardization and its relations with academic curricula in this field. Finally, the workshop will address the issue of teaching materials to support academic courses.

Session 1: Overview of Standardization research

  • Economic research on standardization.
  • Management research on standardization.
  • Technical research on standardization.
  • Research on standards and innovation
  • Law and public policy research on standardization


Session 2: Research-underpinning for teaching topics in standardization

Topics may include but are not limited to:

  • Principles of standardization.
  • Standardization and Quality Management.
  • Standardization and Metrology.
  • Standardization and Conformity Assessment.
  • Standardization and international trade.
  • Drafting methods for standards.


Session 3: Academic curriculum on standardization

  • Structure and contents of an academic standardization curriculum
  • Teaching methodology for standardization.


Session 4: Materials to support teaching in standardization
