ICES 2008 (Maryland)

The 2008 workshop of ICES on Global Perspectives and Strategies for Education about Standardization took place at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) (Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA) on February 21-22, 2008

Standards users and developers in industry, government, and academia need well educated standards experts to reflect current standardization needs and effectively participate in the standards developing process. Education about standardization is an effort to advance and expand the theory and practice of standardization by informing current and future standards users and participants in the process about:

1) the role and importance of standardization in facilitating commerce and trade;
2) advancing the business of government;
3) facilitating commercialization of technologies; and
4) supporting innovation.

This purpose of the workshop was to promote and support awareness of education about standardization worldwide. Participants learned about current activities, exchange and discuss ideas to develop education programs, learned more about the International Cooperation on Education for Standardization, and identified strategic areas for future activities.
